I ordered Girl Scout cookies this week and I can't wait for my delivery. I probably went a little overboard, but you can never have too many boxes of Thin Mints!
Since cookie season only comes once a year, here are some fun facts about America's favorite treat from the Girl Scouts' website:
- The first Girl Scout troop to sell cookies was located in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They began selling cookies in 1917.
- In 1933, the Girl Scouts of Greater Philadelphia charged 23 cents a box for cookies.
- During World War II, Girl Scouts sold calendars instead of cookies because of ingredient shortages. Sales spiked after the war.
- 1966's bestselling cookies were Chocolate Mint, Shortbread, and Peanut Butter Sandwich cookies.
- The treats became available online in 2014 with the launch of the Digital Cookie platform.
Hope you enjoyed these fun facts!
Drop your favorite Girl Scout cookies in the comments (mine are Samoas, aka Caramel deLites, and Thin Mints).
