  • 1.  What Kind of Perfectionist are You?

    Posted 02-17-2023 09:30

It took me a long time to realize I'm a perfectionist, possibly even a Type A personality. I was surprised at first, but now I'm learning how to best use my skills and work on my weaknesses.

NPR shared a quiz about the different types of perfectionists. I had no idea there was more than one type, but they are Intense Perfectionist, Classic Perfectionist, Parisian Perfectionist, Procrastinator Perfectionist, and Messy Perfectionist. My highest scores at 29% each were Classic, Parisian, and Procrastinator, with Messy coming in last place with 14%.

I can't say I'm shocked, but it was interesting to see the percentages broken down like that. I think this quiz can be a helpful tool for us perfectionists out there.

Take the quiz and share your results! Were you surprised by your scores? Do you consider yourself a perfectionist?

@Taylor Evans Ghosal  Fun quizz. Guess i am a Classic Perfectionist. 57% score. Which is good. I knew i wasn't a Gordon Ramsay type (Intense). and I definitely am not messy or procrastinator. As to Parisian, though I would like to think it, I rarely have people call me "easy going." Ha! I am curious to see how other people score. @Maria Mooshil ? @Brianne Haxton ? @Quinn Drew ?

Fascinating quiz! I'm a Procrastinator (53%!!) followed by Classic (29%). I would think Classic would be higher, but when I really think about it, I truly am a procrastinator perfectionist. Do you know how many years I've been putting off working to sort and organize the crush of photos I've collected in my lifetime (both the kind in albums and my online ones)? I think I'm coming up on a second decade of putting off that particular project. lol! I need time and focus to do it, but who has that kind of time or focus?

This was super interesting, @Taylor Evans Ghosal and thanks for the tag, @Arnie Grahl! I have no idea what my scores say about me... but I'm 29% of EACH Parisian, Procrastinator, and Messy types, 14% Intense, and 0% Classic. I think it does track, though, as I see myself as a People Pleaser (Parisian), someone who always Waits For The Right Time (Procrastinator), and most definitely a Quick to Start, Slow to Finish (Messy) kind of person. I think the type I struggle with most is the Dreamer in me -- I like to think about big ideas, and then have a hard time focusing enough to put them into action.

So this advice really hits home: "Morgan Schafler says messy perfectionists are powerful as champions of possibility – but none of their great ideas can come to fruition without focus. They should practice channeling their enthusiasm into single, intentional projects with easily achievable goals."

Really interesting stuff, and good things to think about on this Tuesday that kind of feels like a #MindfulnessMonday :)

Ok, my results surprised me! I'm mostly procrastinator perfectionist (57%)--never in a million years would have pegged myself for a procrastinator! But much like @Maria Mooshil when I take a minute to reflect, is does kinda fit.

Fun quiz, thanks for the Friday diversion, @Taylor Evans Ghosal
